Oregon State Senator
Sara Gelser is an Oregon state senator (D), elected to office in 2014. She previously served in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2005 to 2015 and on the National Council of Disability, nominated by President Obama, from 2010 to 2015. Earlier in her career, she worked in the Oregon Department of Human Services and was on the Corvallis School Board. Having entered public service through the disability community, Gesler has carried legislation banning “conversion therapy” and sponsored Oregon’s Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights, legislation to create the nation’s first LGBTQ veterans coordinator, and Melissa’s Law to end Oregon’s rape-kit backlog.
